US Box Office: Saw Cuts Deep Business - Monday October 30, 2006With little in the shape of new releases it turned out to be a weak-end in the US with only two new entries managing to secure a place in the top ten. The torture horror series Saw continued to impress this weekend, with the third instalment drawing a huge three-day-total of over $34million. With its pre-halloween release, this film lived up to the hype and averaged a whopping $10,830 per screen. On top of this, the bloody horror grossed more than all the other films in the top five together! The only other new entry this weekend was the bizarre family tale, Running With Scissors. The true story, based on the memoirs of Augusten Burrough, debuted in at the bottom of the chart in tenth place.
The Departed Continues To Wow
Martin Scorsese's The Departed continued to impress remaining in second place. The film has grossed a total of $91.1million so far and looks set to continue, it's also Warner Bros' second most successful film of the year after the mammoth Superman Returns! Last weeks leader, The Prestige fell to third place while Eastwood epic, Flags of Our Fathers fell to fourth, taking an mediocre $6.4million. In total, the chart grossed $84.6million, up just 2% on the same period last year. Friday will see the release of Borat and animation Flushed Away (starring the vocal talents of none other than Shane Richie), check back to see how these affect the chart!
