Double Whammy for Horton Business - Wednesday March 26, 2008'Horton Hears a Who' tops UK and US box office.Horton hears applause from both sides of the Atlantic, with the UK release of the animated Dr Seuss tale coming straight in at number one of the UK Box Office on its opening weekend.
The film, which stars the voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell was well in the lead with nearly £3million in takings; second place The Spiderwick Chronicles , crept in with £2 555 791.
Third and fourth place were taken up by Step Up 2 the Streets and Meet the Spartans respectively. Neither recieved a warm greeting from critics and are unlikely to be dancing in the top ten for long.
The Guillermo Del Toro backed horror, The Orphanage, directed by new comer Juan Antonio Bayona , has been described by critics as "what every great horror film should be." So it is surprising to see it make a relatively low entry at number ten.
Last weeks number one, 10,000 B.C. has dropped to fifth place proving that a film needs to be more than good looking if it wants to have any staying power with the UK audiences.
