Summer Heights High Creator Graduates To New Show

TV Series - Tuesday October 7, 2008

The brains behind the satirical show is working on a new series for the Australian Broadcasting Corporatoin.

School may be out for the excellent Summer Heights High, but show creator Chris Lilley isn't exactly on his hols. According to Digital Spy, the caustic comic couldn't pick up his trophy at the recent Fine Arts Awards as he is busy developing a new series for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

Although ABC won't reveal the precise format of the project, Lilley has previously mentioned he's like to revisit both his cop-turned-motivational speaker character Phil Olivetti and horrendus 'Heights exchange student, stuck-up Ja'mie King.

Lilley recently told Metro that he had been offered "loads of money" do a US version of Summer Heights High. Don't worry fans - he turned it down.

"They wanted me to do it again in an American accent - all these terrible ideas," explained the comic. "I wouldn't let it happen. I spent so long working on the characters, I hate the thought of someone else playing them."

We at Screenrush were big fans of the Office-style mockumentary school series, but we're glad Lilley will be offering up fresh delights rather than re-heated leftovers. Although the obnoxious Ms King was our fave character so we certainly wouldn't mind seeing more of her. What did you reckon of Summer Heights High?
