Unbeknown to Maria, Tony is arrested and taken in for questioning over Liam's death...Roy and Hayley feel relieved about the outcome and soon the rest of the Street are aware of what's going on. Despite indignant Julie being sacked, Eileen remains suspicious of Jesse. Gary decides to go on an army taster weekend.

After a convoluted Tony sees Maria crying her eyes out to Hayley, he goes in search of Roy who is on his bat watch. After a heated argument, Tony pushes Roy into the canal...Eileen doesn't understand why Jesse won't celebrate his 40th so Lloyd suggests that they throw a surprise party.

With Roy flailing around in the canal, Tony walks away. Later he hands himself into the police and confesses everything. As Maria finally finds out the truth about Tony, she struggles with her morals when he begs for her forgiveness at the station.

When Michelle breaks the news to Ryan that Tony killed Liam, he reacts badly and announces he wants to leave Weatherfield. However later, they receive a call saying Barry and Helen have flown to visit them. A hysterical Maria removes all traces of Tony from her life. Blanche shamelessly flirts with George.

After a grilling from Barry and Helen, Maria goes missing and is later found having a break down at Liam's grave. Joe is forced to tell Gail about his debts. Steve and Dev have a competition to see who can win the only golf membership left. Eileen is gutted to find out Jesse always spends his birthday with his parents.
