Philip Glenister Quits Demons

Star has refused to return for a second series.

It seems that ITV's supernatural show Demons will be axed at the end of season one, after it's star Philip Glenister has reportedly refused to come back for series number two due to other work commitments.

The sci-fi drama drew in six million viewers when it was launched in January 2009. But, despite a number of celebrity guest stars, the audience slumped by half to about three million, What's on TV reports. The actor, who is best known for his roles in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes , was not well reviewed by critics for his portrayal of vampire hunter Rupert Galvin.

According to a TV source, "ITV spent millions on Demons but things have not worked out. Philip Glenister made it clear he would not come back. He's busy filming, with a second series of Ashes to Ashes and has other shows in the pipeline." Glenister commented that he was initially reluctant to take up the part, which needed him to talk in an American accent, saying, "Rupert was written as a Texan originally and I thought b******s to that - I'm not playing a Texan."

This news has come at a tough time for TV and unless a show is a success straight away, there isn't the money to fund it.
