David Gordon Green's long-rumoured remake of Suspiria gets the greenlight

David Gordon Green's long hinted-at remake Suspiria seems to have received a green-light and shooting is reported (by Slash Film) to be starting early next year.

The film takes its lead from Dario Argento's horror landmark Suspiria which, though made in the rather lightweight late-70s, exhibited a groundbreakingly flamboyant and remarkably grizzly approach to death and still stands as one of the most influential and scariest film of its kind.

When it comes to horror remakes, it's one thing taking a recently released foreign-language hit (think Spanish shocker [Rec] remade within a year as Quarantine) or a long-forgotten C-movie from year's ago, but it's quite another to tackle those films that helped create the genre. In recent year's horror-fans have been inundated (with varying degrees of enjoyment) with remakes of such classics as Halloween as well as assailed by endless rumours of a remake of that other totem late-70s/early-80s US horror The Evil Dead... and let's not forget about the woeful retreads of both Psycho and The Wicker Man's paths.

Word on the street is that this one could be different but we have to say that the Screenrush jury is as yet out. What do you think?
