Newlyweds John and Jennifer Grogan are contemplating parenthood. In an experiment to see whether they are ready to raise a family, they adopt labrador puppy Marley, who instantly proves to be a menace to society. As the years go by, and the Grogan's experiment turns into real children, will Marley's mischievous ways land her back in the dog house, or will she prove to be an indispensable part of the family unit, in this tale of love, life and a labrador? |

Life Imitates Art | In the film, Owen Wilson's parents are played by his real life parents. In an interview his mother admitted how her biggest problem was trying to remember to call him by his character's name John, and not his real name.
|
Cameo | John Grogan, the original book's author, and his family make a cameo appearance in the film - they are looking on as Marley flunks out of obedience school.
|
Book to Blockbuster | Marley and Me is based on the New York Times bestselling autobiographical book by journalist John Grogan.
|
Crossing Over | Kathleen Turner, who played Marley's dog trainer, starred with Jennifer Aniston on Friends as Chandler Bing's cross-dressing father Charles.

The Daily Telegraph - Sukhdev Sandhu | Screenrush Barometer: |
| 'It's nice to see Wilson and Aniston, the latter mainly in shorts and tight T-shirts, gambol around. And, most of all, it's great to be able to gurgle adoringly at Marley. He's played by 22 dogs; now there's bark for your buck.' |
| The Sun - The Sneak | Screenrush Barometer: |
| 'If there is a major gripe, it is that in places director David Frankel tugs too much on the heartstrings. Subtle it is not. But your critic didn't expect to enjoy Marley & Me this much' |
