Amanda Woods is the owner of a prospering advertising firm that creates movie trailers and lives in Southern California. Iris Simpkins writes the popular wedding column for the UK's Daily Telegraph and resides in a charming cottage in the English countryside. Iris is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda realises the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in exactly the same place. When the women stumble across a website specialising in home exchanges they agree to criss cross continents in an attempt to find the remedy to their troubles. Out of their natural habitat it a seems that the best trips are the ones where you leave your baggage behind, as both women find unexpected love on the other side of the world... |

Sight & Sound - Anna Smith | Screenrush Barometer: |
| "While fitfully amusing, The Holiday is at its best when going all out for old-fashioned romance. True, it's overlong and and peppered with corny dialogue. But with a likeable cast and credible romantic unions, it still has the power to move us as the credits roll over its shamelessly idealised closing scene." |
| The Sun - Johnny Vaughan | Screenrush Barometer: |
| "I'm not ashamed to admit I really liked it. It's soppy as hell but great turns by the A-list cast make this a stand-out date flick."

ilovemovies - on 11/12/2006 | The ideal chick flick... Although Jack Black is cast as the unlikely love interest for the stunning Kate Winslet, this film offers something for everyone and plenty of laughs. Go see with your gal pals! |
| Nighy - on 18/01/2007 | As blatantly self-conscious comedy, this is brilliant. As a serious attempt at a RomCom, this is cringe-worthy. I am certain it is the former and this is why i laughed so hard the whole way through, and almost wept at the director's command. It had the right cast, the right plot, it is the perfect RomCom as long as youu don't expect anything too profound. |
