Back on the big screen the series will be as George Lucas takes us to an extra-dimensiony galaxy far far away...
It has been known for some time that
George Lucas has been planning to bring his sci-fi blockbuster back to cinemas with an all-new 3D makeover and now
Heat Vision Blog has announced that
Star Wars : Episode I - The Phantom Menace will be released, remastered and 3D-ified in 2012.
Lucas had wanted to wait until there were enough 3D screens available to make the release widespread and satisfy everyone, now with the amount of 3D films expected in the next few years its seems that time has come. After the Phantom Menace, each of the films would be released in order each consecutive year (each conversion takes around a year to finish so that would make sense).
The series is also prepped for Blu-ray release next year and we're guessing that Lucas is hoping 3D DVD's will also be available to the paying public. This may well be possible as Samsung is looking to sell thousands of 3D TVs in the next few year with other brands expected to follow suit.
So are you looking forward to seeing the Deathstar in 3D? or do you think Lucas is just bleeding the success of his iconic series dry? Let us know what you think.
