Not including the poor quality, sneakily recorded footage from comic-con this year we now have our first official glance at the latest Marvel Comics hero to grace the screen, the mighty Thor.
Based on Norse mythology, Chris Hemsworth plays the headstrong hero, who, after bringing war to the kingdom of Asgard is cast out by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Sent to Earth to teach him a lesson, Thor is stripped of his powers and left to fend for himself, though by the looks of it he can still handle himself in a fight powers or not.
During his time on Earth he meets scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and just as he’s getting settled, his jealous step-brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) decides to launch an attack on Earth using the darkest forces of Asgard and it’s up to Thor and his trusty hammer Mjolnir to save the day.
Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson, previously seen recruiting Iron Man, can be seen in the trailer which hints to the coming together of the Marvel Heroes for The Avengers film in summer 2012 which will feature, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and many other characters from their collective franchises.
Kenneth Branagh might not seem like an obvious choice for the director of a superhero film but from the looks of the trailer there’s plenty of action and a suitably god-like feel to the kingdom of Asgard compared with Earth.
Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think…
