Shane Meadows is gearing up for a further installment of This Is England
Last year’s surprise Channel 4 miniseries This Is England '86 from Shane Meadows, which followed his 2006 gang film This is England, is set for a further installment this Christmas with a two hour special called This Is England '88, according to The Guardian.
The one-off film is sure to bring a lot of drama and comedy to the table, with Meadows teaming up with Shameless and Skins writer Jack Thorne to pen the script. Mark Herbert and Warp films, the company behind British comedy film Four Lions, will produce. According to Channel 4’s Head of Drama Camilla Campbell, the film will act as a bridge to make way for a further series, This Is England ’90, which is currently in development.
The series’ favourite couple Woody (Joe Gilgun) and Lol (Vicky McClure) will be back together again, along with a few other foul-mouthed, skin-headed regulars. Set three years later from the film, the previous series depicted working-class Britain in 1986, focusing on the mod revival scene instead of the skinhead subculture. This time round, we sincerely doubt that Lol will be donning the ghastly iconic skirt pouf that came onto the fashion scene in 1988 somehow.
Having just picked up a South Bank Sky Arts Award for This Is England '86, we are sure that Meadows wont fail to produce the goods come Christmas time. Stay tuned for more info' on the film's official page.
