Possible sign of the apocalypse
Does anyone remember Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho being any good? No? Neither do we. Unfortunately, Variety had the news this morning that DreamWorks and Working Title are working on a remake of another of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpieces, Rebecca (recently named Screenrush's most Gothic film of all time). As much as we feel like this is a terrible idea though, the word is that Steven Knight (of Eastern Promises fame) will be writing the script as a separate adaptation of the original Daphne DuMaurier novel rather than a straight remake of Hitchcock's original film. For those unaware of either, Rebecca is the story of a naive young woman who marries a rich widower and moves into his mansion. However, the welcome she receives is a cold one, as his departed wife Rebecca still very much has a hold on the housekeeper, staff and his friends. Before Knight gets to work on Rebecca however, he has been working on an upcoming adaptation of Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol and is also set to make his directorial debut with Hummingbird, starring Jason Statham.
Do you agree with us? Should Hitchock's work be left well alone? Let us know in the comments below!
