Hunger Games Stays Top At US Box-Office

Despite competition from American Pie: Reunion and Titanic 3D, The Hunger Games has stayed on top of the US charts earning an estimated total of $33.5 million in its third week on release, cranking its US total up to $302.8 million. Both American Reunion and Titanic 3D weren’t able to challenge The Hunger Games at the top of the US chart but this won’t worry James Cameron after the amount of cash Titanic originally pulled in, anything extra the film makes is just a plus. American Reunion, which is the first time that the original cast has come together since American Pie: The Wedding, took second spot having made $21.5 million this weekend and Titanic’s glossy 3D retrofitting racked in $17.3 million this weekend, earning itself a grand total of $25.7 million since it’s re-release. The rest of the pack seems a bit further behind. Wrath of the Titans dropped two places down to fourth, earning $15 million; Mirror Mirror went down to fifth with $11 million in it's second week, sixth fell to 21 Jump Street managing to secure a noteworthy $10.2 million. Dr. Seuss' The Lorax came in at a respectable seventh with $5 million. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen ($975,000), Housefull 2 ($846,000) and John Carter ($820,000 only helping its worlwide earnings up to $263.5 million) wrap up the US top ten.
