Skyfall was able to reclaim its number one spot at the US Box Office thanks to the release of train-wreck rom-com Playing For Keeps
Playing For Keeps was the only major film to open at the US Box Office last weekend and not even its star-studded cast (Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones) could keep it afloat. This box-office blunder allowed Skyfall to ease back into its number one position in its fifth week, the only film to remain on top this long since 2010’s How to Train Your Dragon. Sliding into second place is DreamWorks’ Rise of the Guardians, a feat accomplished mostly in part thanks to its holiday heroes. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 scored $9.2 million this week which puts it $1.4 million ahead of New Moon. Lincoln is going strong at number four, while Life of Pi is hanging on at fifth with $8.3 million. Playing For Keeps dove to sixth place in its weekend debut making this Gerard Butler’s second bomb after Chasing Mavericks which released in October. Holding the seventh slot is Wreck-It Ralph grossing $4.9 million, while Red Dawn set in at eighth. Flight stayed put at ninth and Killing Them Softly dropped to tenth place.
Tolkien fans only have to wait a few more days as the hobbits will finally come out of their smials when The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens next weekend.
