Oliver Parker To Bring The WWII Battle Of Dunkirk Back To The Big Screen

14 February 2013 - News - Now Filming

The English filmmaker responsible for the James Bond parody Johnny English Reborn will be showing us a more serious side with his upcoming depiction of the historic WWII battle

A fresh interpretation of the evacuation in Dunkirk—an integral moment of World War II—will be brought to film by English director Oliver Parker. The script, penned by Gavin Scott, traces the rescue mission of hundreds of thousands of British and French troops stationed in the North of France. The heroic act was carried out by everyday British civilian men and women who travelled across the Channel to the Continent by boat. The last major film dedicated to the retelling of such events was Leslie Norman’s 1958 version, which starred John Mills. The serious subject matter will be new terrain for Parker who most recently had Rowan Atkinson spoofing James Bond in the spy comedy Johnny English Reborn.
