After premiering at Toronto over the summer, Mira Nair’s drama centered on East/West tensions in post-9/11 America has been granted a worldwide release
The Reluctant Fundamentalist, an upcoming political thriller by award-winning Indian filmmaker Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair), has just released its first trailer – check it out above! Based on Mohsin Hamid’s identically titled novel, the film’s screenplay—penned by William Wheeler (The Hoax)—follows an expat Indian living the New York (Riz Ahmed) whose quest to achieve the "American Dream" is significantly hindered following the events of 9/11. The Reluctant Fundamentalist premiered last summer at Toronto where it was met with…well, reluctance. While critics often note that the film’s plotlines can be spotted from a mile away, the diverse, beautifully shot locations (New York, Atlanta, Pakistan, India, and Istanbul) coupled with the exotic soundtrack offers a refreshing touch. But you can judge for yourself when the East/West conflict (also starring Kate Hudson, Liev Schreiber, and Kiefer Sutherland) hits UK cinemas April 19.
